The National Cancer Strategy Review and Deliberative Forum

Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, the Minister of Public Health, leading healthcare minds in cancer from across the country will gather to celebrate the successful conclusion of the National Cancer Strategy 2011–2016 and to plan for the future of cancer services in Qatar.
The forum will be a key opportunity to look back on improvements in cancer awareness, screening and care delivered over the five years of the program. It is expected that 200 experts from the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) and Qatar Cancer Society will attend the forum, along with patients who have been treated in Qatar and members of voluntary organizations with an interest in cancer care.
The main objectives of the forum are:
• To officially acknowledge completion of the National Cancer Strategy, and the transformation of cancer services in Qatar;
• To demonstrate the positive impact of transformation on patients including improving public awareness and education;
• To share learning from stakeholder organizations on progress
and challenges, by holding interactive panel discussions with senior leaders in cancer care;
• To build consensus on inclusions and priorities for the next National Cancer Strategy 2017-2022 from the 200 participants who represent all sectors of Cancer Care.
The event will include two panel discussions on the topics of “Prevention, Screening and Early Detection” and “Quality and Innovation in Cancer Care” as well as interactive voting on the future priorities for cancer care in Qatar. Key speakers and presenters include Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham, Chair of the Qatar National Cancer Committee, Sir Murray Brennan, oncologic surgeon-scientist and Director of the Bobst International Center, and Dr. Al-Hareth Al Khater, Deputy Medical Director, National Center for Cancer Care and Research, HMC.
